How do I find out where the nearest Group is?

By Selecting Local Scouting from the top menu of this site you can see a list of town where scout meetings take place.By selecting the town you live near you will be able to see what sections of scouting meet in that town and what day.

There is also a link to contact the group contact who will be able to give you meeting times and let you know if there is a waiting list.

What does it cost to join scouting?

Scout Groups charge subscriptions to cover costs such as upkeep of their meeting place and equipment. These are usually paid weekly, monthly or termly. There is also an annual subscription (which may be included in the Group subscription) which is paid to headquarters for the day-to-day running of the Scout Association and includes insurance for all members.

An extra charge is usually required for special events, camps and other outings.

ift Aid: if you pay tax your Scout Group can use Gift Aid to claim back 20p from every 80p you give in subscriptions or donations. All you need to do is sign a Gift Aid Declaration. all the money will be used to benefit members of the Group.

What information do I need to give the Leader about my child?

You will be asked to give some basic information when your child joins. This is to make sure we can keep your child safe. It includes emergency contact details and details of any medical conditions, allergies etc which the Leader needs to be aware of. Please remember to tell the Leader if there any changes, for example if your child starts taking medication or develops an allergy.

When do Groups meet?

Most Scout Group Sections meet regularly, usually once a week, during term times. There will usually also be opportunities to take part in other events throughout the year at weekends and in the holidays, for example camps and day trips.

Where can i buy a scout uniform?

For the first few weeks uniform is not necessary.

Your Section Leader will advise when it is time for your child to start working on the Scout programme and to buy a uniform. They will be able to advise you where you can buy a uniform locally, and you also buy online or by mail order.

Moray District has a scout shop, section leaders can give you details or you can look here.
