Retired Moray Scout Leader, Bruce McLaren has spent much of 2020 fighting prostate cancer. Indications are that the treatment he has received has been successful in tackling the tumour.
Bruce is a long time friend of one our leaders Ken Matthews. Bruce’s illness has spurred Ken on to take up the challenge of running a marathon in his scout uniform.
Ken added “I’ve run a fair few marathons over the last six years so covering the distance over a month may not be seen as a real challenge for me! So wanting to do something different, I’ve decided to run a full marathon on 31 January in Scout uniform, whilst carrying my rucksack packed for a weekend camp! On a route from my home in Nether Dallachy, I will run to Cullen along the coast and back again in compliance with Covid guidance.”
The run took place on Sunday the 31st of January . Ken ran the 26.2 miles wearing a rucksack weighing just over 8kg. At the time of writing the funds raised stand at £1260. The attached photo is taken when running through Findochty on the way to Cullen.
Bruce learnt recently that the operations and treatment he received last year has resulted in the all clear.
